Carolina Snow, Ice Update
A wedge of cold air has caused freezing rain and sleet to fall across much of the interior Carolinas overnight, with some snow on the northern fringes of the precipitation shield:
At 8 AM, airport observations confirmed that snow (S), Unknown Precip (UP) [JessePedia] and freezing rain (ZR) was falling at many locations:
The "cold wedge" of air that was up against the Appalachians was easily visible on the Pro site temperature map:
WRAL-TV says that crews are working to clear roads and the precipitation should turn to rain before noon. One person was killed in a weather-related crash this morning in Nash County.
