Carolina Beach Vacation: Now With Lower Humidity
With the house-sitters in charge of my cat, I have driven over 800 miles from my home in Pennsylvania to the beach for a week of much-needed vacation. When I arrived at Oak Island, North Carolina Saturday evening, my relatives remarked on how cool it seemed compared to past years. In fact it was a little cooler but I suspected the humidity was also to blame.
The visibility was also longer than I had ever seen it - I had a clear view of the Oak Island Lighthouse and Bald Head Island. Sure enough, looking at the Southport weather observations over the last week, a cold front came through (rare for this far south in late July) and has provided a temporary respite to the extreme heat and humidity in eastern NC.
The graphs of temperature and (average daily) humidity below clearly show the difference during the last two days, compared to the previous week. As I encounter more interesting weather here at the coast I'll report it to you.
