California MARC Winds, 4 Feet of Snow
UPDATE: More spotter report info: A funnel cloud was spotted near Buttonwillow, CA around noon local time.
UPDATE: Grapevine Peak, CA already reported a wind gust of 103 mph overnight, and Squaw Valley reported 22 inches of snow in the past 24 hours, according to NWS spotter reports.
ORIGINAL POST: Things are getting exciting in California with this latest storm. Mike Smith, CEO of WeatherData, An AccuWeather Company, said in an email this morning:
"The high winds appear to be MARC-slot winds associated with a comma-shaped area of strong echoes moving across the LA-Long Beach area at the moment. The northwest tip of the comma is near Hawthorne and curves to Compton and then southwest to Lomita (see radar image below)."
After all, it's not often you hear about Compton and "The LBC" in my blog. You can read more about MARC radar signatures here. Various watches and warnings have been posted for the state, including several flood warnings (shown in green below).
On top of all that, we are expecting 4 feet of snow in some of the Central mountains. For more information on all of this, stay tuned to Ken Clark's blog and our Weather Headlines (at right), and our Breaking Weather News Page (PREMIUM | PRO).
