CA Snow Totals Over 100 Inches, 6 States Over 40
Really quickly this morning just a taste of the snow totals from last week's Western storm. Snow piled up to over 9 feet in California, and six states had reports over over 40 inches. The 112 inches sounds incredible but don't forget that Kirkwood reported 132" two years ago. In Flagstaff, Arizona, the over 50 inches that fell tied for the 3rd highest 5-day and storm total snowfall in recorded history (NOAA) and the Sunrise Mountain total of 70 inches included 48 inches in 24 hours, which, if confirmed, would smash the old 24-hour state snowfall record of 38 in 1967 according to Chris Burt, Author of "Extreme Weather".
Here are amounts over 90 inches (8 feet = 96 inches) from California:
Kaiser Point: 112" Chilkoot Meadow: 110" Horse Meadow: 101" Mammoth Mountain: 97" Tamarack Summit: 96" Quaking Aspen: 96" Boreal: 96" June Mountain: 96" Dodge Ridge: 96" Farewell Gap: 95" Soda Springs: 94" Kirkwood: 94" Donner Peak: 94" Running Springs: 91"
