EARLIER REPORT, 9 a.m.:
Advisories for the weekend snowstorm had been trimmed from the northwest Saturday morning and the bulk of the initial precipitation was off the Carolina coast Saturday morning.
However, a secondary low pressure system was still to develop further northward and AccuWeather.com meteorologists remained convinced that there is a good chance the storm will intensify very quickly, once it enters the zone between mild Gulf Stream air to the east and cold air to the west.
The Blizzard Watch for New York City had been joined by a Coastal Flood Warning issued by the National Weather Service.
Highest Reported Amounts so far:
North Carolina: 5"
Kentucky: 4"
Arkansas: 3"
Georgia: 1"
West Virginia: Trace
Some places in PA & NY also received 0-2" from unrelated snow showers overnight, according to the WeatherMatrix SnowMatrix.
Mount Mitchell, North Carolina webcam this morning showed that snow was falling there, and my mom's weather camera in Boomer, NC, to the east, confirmed that light snow had fallen.
I've got to run to Altoona, PA to look at furniture for my new house before the snow hits; I'll post again early afternoon with new snowfall totals.
