Blizzard of 2016: 66 inches of snow and coastal chaos
The Blizzard of 2016 flooded coastal communities and piled up over 40 inches of snow, with incredible drifts. It set new snowstorm records at New York City and Baltimore.
Mount Mitchell, North Carolina, racked up 66 inches from the storm -- a new record for them, beating the 50 inches they measured during the Blizzard of 1993. The list below includes the highest amount per state, two for mountain tops/ski slopes (indicated by asterisks). For populated areas, Glengary, West Virginia, was the winner with 42 inches.

The map above is AccuWeather's estimate for the storm total -- not meant to be exact; obviously there were higher amounts. The map shown below is from the NWS.
Coastal flooding was insane, in some places higher than Hurricane Sandy.
Here's a list of wind gusts at/or above 70 mph; not shown is an 85-mph gust at Assateague Island, Maryland.
