Big Stories: Road Closures, Power Outages
Make sure you read our Eastern Story which details the Top 5 Big Problems this late-week Nor'easter will cause. I will call out a couple of them here. This is a great graphic that we did this morning that depicts what one, if not the, big story from this Blizzard could be. We're not just getting heavy snow, but high winds, and days of both! If you think back to some of the great Blizzards of the past that have closed interstates and stranded passengers, this may be one for the record books. Interstates 80, 81, 84 & 90 could be at risk.
Our article featuring this graphic goes on to say:
"At times, the snow will be falling at 1 to 2 inches per hour, and blowing snow will be so bad you won't be able to see across the street. This bad winter storm will probably force certain sections of highway through northeastern Pennsylvania and central New York to close. Best be advised that travel through this region should be avoided if at all possible beginning Thursday afternoon."
Another big problem could be power outages. Not only are we going to have high snow amounts and high winds for days, the snow is going to be wet, heavy and sticky (no leaves required, the snow will be plastered to the trees!), especially near the coast. Again think back to major blizzards, ice storms or hurricanes that have cut power to hundreds of thousands and you'll get a feel for what we could be dealing with this weekend. If you can watch the video below, it may have more information (due to high web traffic from the storm, we are experiencing some video problems this evening).

Chris:
Does Accuweather really need to keep a story up on it's headline page for 3 days about potholes in Poland? Is there a large readership concerned about the state of polish roads?
FROM JESSE: Ha! Good point. On the new website, we will have more slots for news that will make more sense for your region.
