Big Snow and Extreme Cold in W. Canada, MT
Temperatures this morning in Montana were below zero, while 1-2 feet of snow falls further north into western Canada (thanks to blog reader Chris Burt [JessePedia], Author of "Extreme Weather" for pointing this out).
Porphyry, Montana reported a low temperature last night of -8, but the data was flagged by the quality control algorithms. If you don't believe that reading, check out the nearby 2 above zero at Galena.
Chris says: "Ironically the heaviest 24-hour snowfall ever in Montana also occurred on April 20 back in 1973... and Butte, MT had 40.5" of snow May 27-29 in 1927, so heavy, late season snowstorms are not that unusual in Montana."
