Big Lightning in '05 'Canes

NASA published a report today about the unusual amount of lightning in the 2005 Hurricanes, and Action Steve Penstone (PRO) beat me to it.
But I'm going to talk about it because this one is dear to my heart... yours truly published several blogs about the unusual amount of lightning in Hurricane Ophelia and Hurricane Katrina. I also spied lightning in Hurricane Dennis, but that was before my blogging days. All of these reports were made possible by our AccuWeather.com LightningPlus product.
Since the U.S. Precision Lightning Network (which powers AccuWeather.com LightningPlus) just launched in 2005, I wondered if all this new data was overwhelming us meteorologists, and maybe there wasn't an increase in lightning for 2005. But the NASA plane data seems to indicate that. To quote from their article:
