Below Zero This Morning in the East
Extremely cold temperatures were observed in the East this morning following yesterday's snowfall (see map & sat shot) Snow on the ground gives off heat and leads to unusually low temperatures.
Bradford, PA had -13 F and Shenandoah Airport, VA had -11, according to MesoWest. Fellow blogger Frank Strait wondered if the -11 was real because it was so far off from surrounding official readings. But looking at the data, I think it is plausible - the graph looks legit and there was a -2 nearby.
Here in State College, Pennsylvania, home of AccuWeather HQ [Google Map], it was the coldest day of the season, showing these readings (you may recognize some of the names as our Bloggers).
