Beach Photos From Vacation Thursday
Well, we're heading back to my Mom's house in the NC Foothills tomorrow (Saturday). It was a little sad leaving the beach this year because we have decided to move to a new beach rental house starting in 2010. We started renting this house in 1989, when I was in high school. So much has changed since then! The young kids then now have families and we need more room, so we're moving down the beach a few blocks.
This was a really good vacation week and I took a lot of great pictures, some of which I haven't even uploaded yet; you can see all the pics on our Photo Gallery, and below are some samples (in addition to the Lighthouse Climb and Sunday Storm that I already blogged about).
On Thursday morning, a storm woke me up at 4:30 am and I got up and put the cameras on the porch. It was weakening at the time and I didn't get any lightning except the shot below (the storm was also illuminated by the moon to the West):
More importantly, I was able to greet the sunrise at 6:15 AM which was something I thought I'd never be up early enough to witness. The first picture below is taken from the end of Long Beach:
The photo below was taken from my porch (those are brightly colored windsocks in front of the sun, believe it or not, but it has a Halloween kind of creepy feel to it):
We also went to the Ocean Crest Pier, where I took some pictures of the ocean from above, like this one:
There is an official NOAA weather station there, which is a WeatherPac station. Here's a picture of it:
They also have a webcam there which my Mom and I stood in front of and called PA storm chaser Ron "R-Factor" Shawley to grab some screencaps of us:
We also stopped by the house that my Mom & Dad moved into after they got married in 1968 (my uncle lives there now). That sparked a lot of interesting reminiscence.
When we got home there were some impressive storms to our north, which faded out but later a nice looking shelf cloud approached, then faded, from a storm to our East (I've got a timelapse & panorama I'll upload later):
It ended up raining from blue sky while the storm was to the east and the sun set to the west (no rainbow, I checked) - I did a short video on that topic.
Later on, the storm moved over water and (in addition to a nice sunset) lit up pink from the setting sun (check out the "V-line" of birds too!):
And all that was just Thursday (I took over 500 pics this week and have only uploaded 75) but that will get you started, and I'll blog more after we get home. Meanwhile, have fun with the weather whereever you happen to be this weekend. For us, it looks like a hot but calm weather forecast for both the trip to Mom's Saturday and back to Pennsylvania Sunday.
