Bastardi: Hot Time, Summer in the City 2007
The AccuWeather.com Summer 2007 Forecast is out (PREMIUM | PRO) - and it's gonna be a "Hot Time, Summer in the City"
in the Northeast, according to AccuWeather.com Professional's Joe Bastardi [BIO] (PRO). Specifically, the second half of the Summer, and most of the Northeast and Great Lakes, and Midwest.
Is it Global Warming? Bastardi says no:
"While some may be quick to ascribe this summer’s potentially extreme weather conditions to global warming, Bastardi warns against this. "The weather events that occur in individual seasons don’t provide conclusive proof of global warming," he said. "Also, conditions this summer will be similar to the summers of the 30s, 40s, and 50s, and no one attributes [that] severe weather that occurred then to human-induced global warming, particularly since we entered a period of cooler temperatures soon thereafter."
Who sang "Summer in the City" and what city and summer were they talking about? The official Lovin' Spoonful site says that the band members came from New York, and About.com says that the song referred to the July 1966. And well it should, according to the NWS in NYC, the Summer of 1966 brought 4 days over 100 degrees, tying with 1953 as the hottest temperatures on record. They also had 9 consecutive days over 90 degrees, (3rd longest stretch), with 35 days total over 90, ranking 4th for number of days over 90 degrees.
