Awesome Weather Videos Last Week!
While I finish some last-minute stuff today before my trip, I leave you with the following awesome weather videos that I have found (or people have emailed me) this week. All of these videos were taken last Wednesday and Thursday, if you can believe that! This is why I always say: The Weather Is Always Interesting!
Copy and paste my URL right now and send it to your weather friends, they're gonna love these. Also click on the button below, then click on "Digg It" on their site so we can bring these awesome weather videos to the masses.
This amazing video (I couldn't believe it was real the first time I saw it) shows billboard-sized signs flying around in a soccer stadium in South Africa during high winds. It's interesting that the winds could even make it down to the ground in the stadium, but it obviously was terrible weather, as the power was out before the game started. Alexandre, who runs a blog at MetSul also sent me this news article about the game.
It was 32 degrees below zero with a 111 mph wind on Mount Washington [JessePedia] last week, so they decided it would be fun to take some boiling water, throw it into the wind, and watch it turn into snow. I think that's about the only (inhabited) place on earth where you can do that, and I'm proud to have it be part of these Northeast United States. (This video and additional commentary was posted to their blog).
NCWN, a news website in Washington State received this heart-wrenching video of cars sliding on ice and hitting various things. They wouldn't let me put it on my page, but here's a link to the video. As the video description says, "Elementary teacher Derek Porter witnessed 15 different car collisions on icy roads outside his Portland apartment Tuesday morning and caught several on home video." Make sure you are listening to the audio on this one -- the frequent calls of "Look Out!" and "Car!" before the crushing sounds of metal will make you grimace. Hopefully nothing was injured here but some pride.
