Awesome Sepat Threatens Nuke Waste Site?
Blog reader Michael brings up the point that Super Typhoon Sepat is approaching Taiwan today and may run right over Orchid Island [Google Map], home to nearly 100,000 barrels of leaky nuclear waste. I'm no expert, but that could be a problem. Here's a satellite shot of the storm last night, as it was going through eyewall replacement [WikiPedia]:

Sepat was once a 150-knot (173 mph) Category 5 (Super) Typhoon with an unthinkable pressure of 888 mb (25.69"Hg) pressure (world record is 870). It has decreased now to a Category 4 storm and is approaching Taiwan, expected to pass near Orchid Island.
I haven't researched this culear waste story myself, and the news is not covering it, but here are some links that Michael sent:
- WikiPedia
- Taipei Times
- American University
- NUCTrans
