Awesome Maine Storm Photo, NYC Damage
I wanted to highlight a couple of photos in the AccuWeather.com Weather Photo Gallery from recent storms. First, from user topazz1963, two photos of an awesome storm in southernmost Maine last week:
They were taken in Springville, Maine [Google Map]. This is what the radar looked like as she snapped the pics (at the "X"):
UPDATE: 9 PM 10/1/07: A reader told me that the photographer had the location incorrect and that this radar shot is a more accurate representation of the location of the photo. Either way, same storm.
I've drawn a line just in front of the outflow boundary signature on radar, with arrows indicating where the boundary (gust front) was heading, i.e. straight towards the photographer.
Next up, from back on September 11, 2007, photos of thunderstorm damage on Long Island [Google Map]. The damage looks like the result of a downburst, but The NWS [JessePedia] did not issue any storm reports in that area that day, despite a strong line of storms moving through (download radar loop here)*
