Arthur First Hurricane to Threaten U.S. on July 4th?

It seems unusual to be talking about a (potential - as of this writing) Hurricane as we move into the long Independence Day weekend, so I wondered: What other Tropical Storms besides Arthur have threatened the U.S. on July 4th, or the days leading up to it?From what I can tell from the Hurricane Database, only seven storms were being tracked on that day, back to 1980.

Only one, Tropical Storm Alberto in 1994, made landfall on July 4th, in the Florida Panhandle. No hurricanes have threatened the U.S. on July 4th in that time period. You can see more information on these seven storms at the NOAA CSC GIS website. The seven storms and their status on July 4th are as follows:

- Bertha (2008): Was just forming as a Tropical Depression off of Africa.- Dennis (2005): Was just forming as a Tropical Depression in the Caribbean.- Cindy (2005): Was just forming as a Tropical Depression off the Yucatan Peninsula.- Ana (1997): Was a Tropical Storm moving away from the mid-Atlantic.- Alberto (1994): Made landfall as a Tropical Storm late July 3rd and was downgraded to a Depression at 0 GMT on July 4th.- Ana (1991): Became a Tropical Storm off the mid-Atlantic coast.- Unnamed (1981): A Tropical Depression made landfall on July 3rd and had dissipated by 0Z July 4th.

Other named storms prior to 1980 active on July 4th included Arlene 1971, Alice 1973 and Amy 1975. The most notable of these (those not U.S.-related) was Hurricane Alice in 1973, which made landfall in Bermuda (satellite image shown below).
