UPDATE: Based on this NWS release (and comparing to the previous one), these incredible reports have now come out of Tennessee:
Mount Leconte [Google Map]: 17.0"
Newfound Gap: 12.0"
High Country Webcams This Morning And Afternoon For Banner Elk, NC (ironically with a snow plow in the same place in the photo!)
ORIGINAL POST:
Here's a list of snow totals so far from the Appalachian upsloping last night:
Robbinsville, NC [Google Map]: 7.0"
Beech Mountain, NC: 5.0"
Quinwood, WV: 5.0"
Burnsville, NC: 4.0"
Whitetop, VA: 4.0"
Jewell Ridge, VA: 3.0"
Chester, WV: 3.0"
I will update this list later today. The Mount Mitchell and High-Country webcams in North Carolina showed beautiful scenes of the snow this morning (below is a capture from the Mt. Mitchell cam).
Winds going up the mountains from Tennessee and Kentucky is what led to the precipitation. Below is a Tennessee wind map from this morning.
