Another Urgent Flooding Situation in the Plains!
UPDATE: Here's a map we've drawn of some of the local river stages:
Fortunately, the heavy precip since yesterday morning fell in Nebraska. Note that yesterday morning's NMM Forecast Model [JessePedia] foresaw this, but it had it in the wrong place.
ORIGINAL POST:
Our Wichita Office has let us know that a potential severe flooding situation is setting up in parts of the Plains.
This screencapture below shows that over 8 inches of rain (orange inside the yellow) has fallen in parts of Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri in the past 24 hours. In fact, NWS gauges indicate 12.98 inches in Waco, MO and Carthage, MO has recorded 12.10 inches. Flood reports are shown with green dots.

Mike Smith says: "Serious flooding is expected on the Neosho, Spring, Verdigris and several smaller rivers. U.S. 75, a major north-south highway, is closed near Caney, KS due to flooding. Bridges are reported washed out in southeast Kansas."Channel 12 says: "In Kansas, 20 major highways are closed in Cherokee County and police say rural road closings are too numerous to count."
But worse, even more rain is predicted. The GFS model was convinced on its overnight run that the affected area would be drenched with 6-8 inches of rain over the next week, with over 10 inches in north-central Nebraska, but then lowered its amounts with the 12Z run. The NMM model was not as hyped, showing light amounts for the next four days on its 06Z and 12Z runs. Still, almost any amount of rain on top of this flooding would be a problem.
