AccuChase09 Day 6: Kansas Storm and Onward
ORIGINAL POST: Here's the latest update from AccuChaser Shawn Smith. To see previous updates, click the AccuChase 09 Category at right.
Day 6: On Monday Shawn's team chased along the KS/NE border today and even chased down a tornado-warned storm in Graham County KS. It did not produce a wall cloud but had a decent lowering and some nice lightning (see photo below; video coming soon). Today, they are starting the chase out of Salina, Kansas but are heading to the TX/OK panhandles (without VORTEX2 who is not chasing). With a wide "slight risk" of storms issued by the SPC, it could be a long day. Track their location on the radar map and read their Twitter updates throughout the evening tonight.
NEW VIDEOS FROM SUNDAY AT RIGHT: 1.) A video about the VORTEX2 Armada that fills the hotel parking lot each night. 2.) A video that describes the equipment used when launching these weather balloons for VORTEX2. 3.) The actual balloon launch.
