AccuCam Versus Satellite Photos in the Def Zone
I saw some interesting clouds on the AccuCam Thursday and thought I'd take a look at them from above - using satellite images. Due to different cloud levels and satellite update times, it's sometimes hard to draw a direct comparison, but yesterday was a great day to do a comparison. Check out the visible satellite animation from above the Earth, versus the AccuCam webcam shot below:

We were on the edge of a "deformation zone" all day -- a cold front had just moved south past us and the battle between the high pressure above, and low pressure below, us was causing wispy cirrus clouds drift by to our south. The high-res MODIS visible shot came in a little early when the clouds were further away, but you could still see them to our Southwest.

Scott from CIMSS (who suggested it was the deformation axis causing this) sent in a couple of additional satellite pictures confirming the high cirrus clouds, around 9,000 feet:
