A Stormy and Busy Day Saturday in Central PA
We ended up having our first severe weather day in Centre county yesterday, with a Slight Risk posted for our area. Unfortunately I had a yard sale and other family engagements which kept me away from the weather all day. I still managed to snap a few pictures, below are some panoramas that I made (you can do this too by using software like Panorama Maker Pro). I've always said - I love the way the bright green leaves of Spring look up against dark gray skies:
I also thought the church steeple added a lot to this pic of scary clouds:
The pictures above were snapped shortly before rushing to hide yard sale wares from the storm, which clipped us in Milesburg, PA around 2:30 PM (see radar image below). Note the interesting vertical feature partially hidden by the mountain in these pictures:
In the lower left photo, which was taken last, you can see that it was just an interesting perspective of an arcus cloud (gust front).
Here's the radar image from MapSpace at the time the photos above were taken. This is looking southwest as most of the storm passed to our south (but not all, we got some big raindrops).
Later on, after we got home to State College, I took more pictures looking southeast after the line of storms had passed at around 5:30 PM.
Here's what the radar looked like at that time.
We a couple of lightning strikes to my west during this storm but most were to my east when it really blew up leaving the area.
State-wide, the storms weren't terribly severe, at least in western & central parts of the state, though there was a tornado reported in southern New York state. You can see the storm spotter reports below.
