A Record Record Day
The National Weather Service issued 71 record reports yesterday, placing the day in the top 10 record-filled days since I have been keeping track (since March 2003). There were about 10 record highs in the West and reports showed around 40 record lows in the South, where temperatures dipped to the 20's in Mississippi. Over 20 of the record reports involved precipitation, mostly on the East Coast, from Hurricane Wilma and the Nor'easter.

How's this for "six degrees of separation"?
A record low temperature was set in New Iberia, Louisiana yesterday. New Iberia is not only the town where I volunteered for Habitat-for-Humanity after Hurricane Andrew, but also the home town of a sub-story in NBC's alien series "Surface" which I am watching this fall TV season. "Surface" is filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, in fact in Monday's episode, they showed a scene on a dock where I stood in August 2003 during my vacation there.
