A Night of Tornadoes in East Texas, Louisiana
UPDATE: Since a Facebook Fan asked, yes there was quite a bit of hail last night too, about 3 dozen reports. As large as 4.25" in Louisiana, 1.75" to the east of there.
Fifteen tornado reports were filed with the National Weather Service last night in eastern Texas and Louisiana, the most notable being a tornado that struck I-20 in Canton, TX though there were injuries in Waskom. Here is a map of the reports. The NWS in Shreveport is sending out no fewer than three teams to investigate today.
The satellite this morning shows even higher (colder) cloud tops than during the night last night. All of this looks like something that you'd see in the Spring, but winter severe weather outbreaks are not unprecedented -- there are normally 34 tornadoes in January and we had even larger outbreaks in 2008 and 2006.
There's also a very thin squall line in Georgia this morning, with no advisories currently out (thanks Carrie for the tip).
