A Frigid April So Far in East - Will It Improve?
The last week has felt simply icy for many of those of us in the Midwest, Ohio Valley, and mid-Atlantic. Want proof? Here's a map showing average departures from normal temperatures between April 6 & April 12. Here in Central PA we've been chilling at 6 degrees below normal, while some in Illinois are south of -9.
The only people averaging above 50 degrees have been in southeastern Virginia and eastern North Carolina, while normally southern Ohio and Pennsylvania should be enjoying that type of weather this time of year. On April 7th, our high was only 38 here in State College, versus a normal of 55. And of course, the fairly constant wind locally makes every day feel cold.
There is some hope... according to AccuWeather.com, late this week the mid-Atlantic will experience our first true warm-up of this Spring... culminating in highs in the 60s and 70s on Saturday.
But here's the bad news: next week we'll be back in the 40s and 50s. When will the pattern break? AccuWeather.com Professional's Joe Bastardi [BIO] (PRO USERS READ NOW | 30-DAY FREE TRIAL) said in his blog this morning:
Joe Lundberg (PREMIUM | PRO) points out that (because of a brief warm period in early April) temperatures for the month are near normal in the major cities, while Elliot Abrams (PREMIUM | PRO) explains that the warmest weather will be Tuesday & Wednesday in New England, falling south towards the weekend.
