A Foot of Rain: Video, Photos From Tennessee Flooding
Historic flooding continues in Tennessee today after extremely heavy rains dumped a foot of rain this weekend. We have a new story detailing the forecast for the heavy rain, which is still ongoing. Below you can see a YouTube video clipped from a TN DOT traffic cam:
"Video by: 500bennu - May 01, 2010 - Amazing news footage of flooding in Nashville area. Here you see a section of I-24 where cars are stranded. A building from Lighthouse Christian School comes along and virtually disintegrates."
Here is a map showing the heavy rain, well over 10 inches over a wide area. A closeup map from AccuWeather.com RadarPlus shows a few isolated areas over 15 inches.
Official gauges show up to 13.34" at Humphreys, TN. The flooding extends into Kentucky as well. Many roads are closed. The video below gives some details on records that have been set. Needless to say, the area is plastered by flood advisories.
Both the Duck River at Centerville and the Harpeth River near Kingston Springs, shown below, are over their record stages. The latter is no longer transmitting (probably damaged) but was forecast to be around 37 feet this morning, 5 feet above the highest stage ever recorded in 1942.
