A Deadly Foot Of Rain in North Texas
Marianne, a frequent blog reader from northern Texas, tipped me off to this situation late this morning. Fox News is now showing aerial footage on-air of severe flooding north of Dallas. Depending on which Doppler Radar you ask, the total rainfall in this area is between 12 and 16 inches for the last 3-4 days, but last night officially dropped up over 8 inches according to the NWS Gauge-Adjusted Doppler-Precip Map from this morning:
Ironically, most of the footage on-air now is from Halcom City, TX, indicated by the small white square below, which, by this Doppler estimate got only about 3 inches compared to the 10 inches further north, so worse news may be coming. Rooftop rescues have been reported in Gainesville and Sherman, which are in the 8 inch area on the map below. KWTX says I-35 was closed earlier today and that two people have been killed by the flooding.
The images above are from AccuWeather.com RadarPlus and show small cities and towns which are affected by the flooding.
