A Chilly Morning in Central PA
UPDATE 7/3: Kane, Oswayo and Chandlers Valley all dipped to 37 this week according to State College CO-OP data; Bradford, PA hit 36 on Friday. The significance of this is that it is now July and as Chris Burt points out, 28 is the July state record low for Pennsylvania; it's possible when written CO-OP reports are submitted we could have gotten close to or tied that record.
I decided to walk to work this morning here in State College, Pennsylvania, home of AccuWeather HQ [Google Map], but it was actually chilly, something I wouldn't have expected this Summer. So far this month our temperatures have been above normal 24 days, yet this morning my thermometer showed 39 degrees. Here are other nearby temperatures on the Centre County Mesonet:
Of course that is forecast to continue and the beautiful weather this week will be brief. Let's keep it in perspective though, nothing beats last year's low of 43 at the peak of the summer (July 14th). The local airport reached 47 this morning - the local record at Penn State is 44.
Bradford, PA and Oswayo fell to 36. Outside of typically frigid Mount Washington, NH and a couple stations in Minnesota, Central Pennsylvania was the only location in the United States in the 30s, a quick look at the weather map showed.
