9 Feet of Snow, Blog Updates and What is Twitter?
A few blog updates that I have recently done to recent blog entries:
- Western Storm: I think that most of the records that I posted yesterday still stand today, in regards to the Western storm. One new item - Kirkwood Ski Resort reports 108 inches (9 feet) of snow in the last 72 hours. I will post a final update tonight.
- Deep South Freeze: I added a link to a neat article about how iguanas fell out of the trees in Florida during the deep freeze, then came back to life when it warmed up.
- Lake-Effect Snow: I added totals from the Appalachians, which came in pretty high.
And now for something entirely different... What is Twitter?
You may have noticed something new on the left-hand side of my AccuWeather.com blog (Premium and Pro users, I'll show you an example below). It's called Twitter. Twitter is a website where you can give constant updates of what you're up to, and other people can "follow" these updates.
SAMPLE TWITTER FEED
I'm planning on using it to:
- Let you know what blog entries I'm working on, before I post them
- Give you quick updates on breaking weather news (including Model Hype!) or websites (weather, science or technology-related) that I find of interest, without doing a whole blog entry on them
- Let you know what different kinds of things I'm doing all day at AccuWeather (to give you more of an idea on what my job here involves)
- Tell you where I am and what I'm doing if I'm away from the office (to give you more of an idea what the rest of my life is like).
If you find this information useful, look to your left on AccuWeather.com (Premium and Pro users will have to follow me on the Twitter site for now). If you're really bored, you can sign up with Twitter to see my updates on your Twitter page, or even on your cell phone. And finally, if you don't care, you can just ignore it.
Twitter really appeals to me because I've always had my whole life out on the Net. I have to keep the Twitter updates quick and to the point, so they don't take up too much space. So, for example if you look right now it'll say "Long day ahead, see blog."
Well, here you are at my blog, so I'll explain that I'm going to run over to the AccuWeather office this Sunday morning and do some Spring Cleaning and Gadget stuff -- then I need to rush back home and de-decorate from Christmas before it gets too cold this evening (we're experiencing unusually warm temps today here in Central PA - 40s and hopefully 50s).
