2ND LIFE: Tribute to Snow Crash
The former evangelist of Second Life (JessePedia) was instrumental in setting up a monument to Neal Stephenson's famous cyberpunk novel "Snow Crash" (working with the author) which was recently launched in the virtual world. New World Notes has screenshots and a good description of exactly what you can do -- and not do at the shrine.
During my infant cyberpunk years in the early 90's (JessePedia), I was lame enough to email Billy Idol (who's "Well" address appeared in the release of his album "Cyberpunk") and he recommended "Snow Crash" to me as required cyberpunk reading. Sadly, though I enjoyed William Hunt's "Neuromancer", and various Bruce Sterling works, I have never been able to get into "Snow Crash." Perhaps I just need more free time. In any case, the book is widely considered basic cyberculture reading and I'm delighted to see the addition to Second Life.
