22-Degree Halo AND Arc Over Us
For a good 30 minutes today, AccuWeather Meteorologists here at Headquarters in State College, PA were seen staring towards the sun and snapping cameras. Was it a bird, a plane? No but it was a 22-degree halo WITH a rare circumhorizontal arc (or supralateral arc, the jury is still out).
The ironic thing was, I had just closed this web page showing an incredible circumhorizon arc in Seattle last week. I told you this would happen... with my new digital camera on the way, I had already abandoned bringing my old digital camera and all I had to work with was a disposable. Henry, who had clued me in to the existence of the unusual phenomena, and I took a few pics anyway. Sigh. Well, if the pictures come out, I'll post them here later.
UPDATE: The photos have returned from the developing lab and are shown below.
