2013 Christmas was as Cold as Thanksgiving!
Well folks, just like Thanksgiving 2013 here in State College, Pennsylvania, Christmas Day 2013 set the record (by far) for the coldest December 25th since I began blogging in 2005.
Like last year, it snowed here on the day before and day after Christmas, but this year Penn State recorded 0.4" on December 25th, the first time in my records* (even though this was the 5th December with more than 10 inches of snow in the month). No snow was reported on the ground, however, so it was not officially a White Christmas (leaving 2005 with that honor).
Across the country, it was a fairly benign day. The two graphics below are animated versions of our White Christmas forecast, and our Christmas Day forecast.

*The new "day" starts at 7 PM at Penn State meteorology. Otherwise, we would have had several inches on Dec. 25 in 2010 and 2012.
