2005 Season: Add 1 More Tropical Storm
Reuters says that NOAA has added one more (previously undetected by them) subtropical storm to the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season list, bringing the total number of storms to 28. This was a 150-year record number of storms, crushing the previous record of 21 in 1933. Of course, satellite technology is the best way of detecting tropical systems, so data before the 1960's is questionable.
They also upgraded Hurricane Emily to a Category 5 storm, making four for 2005, and tagging Emily as the only Cat 5 to ever form in July. You can read their summary on the "new" storm here (MS-Word Format).
