137 MPH: High Winds in 40 States During November!
November was a very windy month in the U.S., according to SevereMaps.com. Specifically:
- 4 states >100 mph- 9 states > 90 mph (including Alaska)- 12 states > 80 mph - 19 states > 70 mph
Here's a close up map:
In the "100 mph club," we have 8 gusts from four states that were over 100 mph, the highest being 137 mph at Mission Ridge Ski Area, in Washington state.
If you add in tornado reports, the number of states with wind gusts over 70 mph (most tornado winds would be above that threshold) grows from 19 to 23.
There was also wind damage in 40 states (only the "small states" in the mid-Atlantic, New England and Hawaii were immune).
