120 MPH: United Kingdom Storm Moves Thru Europe
UPDATE 10/29/13: The storm was front-and-center in the Europe newspapers again today, as a total of 15 people have been killed, according to the Huffington Post. The Washington Post quoted a wind gust of 120 mph at Copenhagen, Denmark, but I was unable to confirm that via the METAR observations from the local airport. I did find another 105 mph gust there.

ORIGINAL POST MONDAY 10/28/13: The United Kingdom storm that I blogged about on Friday passed through Europe this morning. In the U.K., three people were killed and 600,000 lost power, according to our story, but the storm didn't live up to the local media hype, in my opinion. Here are some of the newspapers from yesterday covering the storm, via Newseum.Org:

As it moved northeastward over Belgium and the Netherlands, a weather station in northernmost Germany (Gluecksburg) recorded a wind gust of 105 mph (a 99-mph wind gust also occurred in the U.K. earlier). In the Netherlands, the media says that it was the worst storm since 1976 (translated).
We have photos of some of the wind damage in our news story. Buoy #62142's pressure fell to 28.76" Hg (973 mb), while waves spiked to 21 feet at #62103.
