10 In. of Rain Forecast for Yard Sale
After recently moving into our new house, my family has been planning a local yard sale of massive proportions. Each year the Milesburg, Pennslyvania area (where my mother and father-in-law live) gets together for two days of community-wide yard sales. This year it's on May 19th and 20th.
So I should have seen this coming. Today in Joe Bastardi's blog on Pro, he proclaims:
This information is based mainly on the GFS model, which is one of the only models that forecasts that far out. Of course, Henry (BIO | PREMIUM | PRO) counters in his blog:
This is a good example of how two good forecasters, even at the same company, can come up with different conclusions by looking at the data. These opposing views is why our forecasters get on the intercom and have a national map discussion several times during the day. There's too much data out there, and some mets might miss something others pick up on. Or, they might just argue.
Anyway, if Joe and the GFS is right, I'll have one rainy yard sale after an initial flood of biblical proportions. Here's how it breaks down:
DAYS 1-7: 5"+ Rain for Eastern PA:
Note that, in the above image, the key doesn't go past 5 inches, so we're probably talking 6-8" in southeastern Pennsylvania.
DAYS 7-15: Another 2.5"+ Rain for Eastern PA
My yard sale is on Day 10. If the GFS is right, the heavy rain will come from multiple slow-moving cold fronts and upper-level storm systems, I won't make much money, and my new house will be full of wet, unsold junk.
