    Quieter Weather For A While

    5/22/2013, 6:12:42 PM

I am @AccuFrank on Twitter, which is the most reliable way to get alerted when I post new stuff. There's also this Facebook fan page thingie, which is not particularly reliable for that but it's good for posting little things where 140 characters won't do them justice.

I totally forgot to mention in the video that we are still looking out for a possible tropical system early in the season. The GFS showing an East Pacific development in the near future followed perhaps by a western Caribbean tropical cyclone during the first part of June makes more sense than what the model. were showing earlier when the MJO (or at least what you expect it to be) is giving you a good signal.

    • Severe storm risk this weekend

A stormy weekend coming up with tornado, wind and flood risks

      Frank Strait - January 19, 2017, 4:27:25 AM EST

A powerful storm system will cross the South, bringing a threat for severe storms and flooding rains. It still looks as though the warm weather pattern will come to an end next week but will last the longest near the East Coast.

    • A storm rolls into the Southeast this weekend

Wet through this weekend; A severe storm threat this weekend

      Frank Strait - January 18, 2017, 4:29:08 AM EST

Three separate storm systems affecting the South over the next week will cause a lot of hail and the threat for severe storms. Parts of the Southeast might have an unusually bad outbreak for this time of year this weekend. These kinds of things can happen when it's unusually warm, though. At least there will be a good soaking rain over a lot of the South, which is still needed. Hopefully, flooding problems can be avoided.

    • Warm this week and quite wet

Warm and wet through this weekend, some areas stormy

      Frank Strait - January 17, 2017, 5:04:51 AM EST

Three separate storm systems affecting the South over the next week will cause a lot of hail and the threat for severe storms. Parts of the Southeast might have an unusually bad outbreak for this time of year this weekend.

    • Stormy Sunday night

A warm week, so little or no snow concerns, storms instead

      Frank Strait - January 15, 2017, 6:56:57 PM EST

With cold air in retreat for now, the concerns mostly involve thunderstorms rather than for winter weather this week. Some areas could see a lot of rain, too. A return to a chillier pattern will start this coming weekend or early in the following week.

    • A stormy Sunday

Active west of the Mississippi with both ice and severe storms

      Frank Strait - January 14, 2017, 6:55:19 PM EST

An icy mess will continue in parts of the Plains and a storm coming in from Mexico will bring in another round of moisture Sunday to keep the ice buildup going. On the warm side of this storm, severe thunderstorms will be a concern over the next couple of days. Once we get past early week, it looks mild for several days with only weak storm systems moving through. However, winter certainly isn't over yet. The only question is how soon it will get cold again.

    • Warmer air spreads across the South this week

Warm this week, stormy and wet in the Plains this weekend

      Frank Strait - January 11, 2017, 4:29:47 AM EST

Cold air will stay mostly bottled up to our north through this weekend, though there remains some concern for ice and maybe even a lot of it in parts of the Plains Friday into Saturday. There will be some concern for heavy rain and perhaps severe storms this weekend and early next week as well.

    • Warmer in the Southeast late week, potential ice storm in the Plains

A mostly warm week, but ice in the Plains late week

      Frank Strait - January 10, 2017, 4:31:44 AM EST

Warmer air will spread across the South this week and it will get quite toasty in Texas and Florida again. However, late in the week, some colder air will muscle its way into the southern Plains and set the stage for some ice and snow. There is a potential for a serious ice storm, in fact.

    • A big warmup is coming by midweek

Very cold to start, but a big warmup this week

      Frank Strait - January 08, 2017, 6:56:59 PM EST

The warmup is underway west of the Mississippi. The start of the workweek will be extremely cold, where snow is on the ground in the Southeast. However, a big warmup is coming and by the end of the week, some areas that had snow will be in the 70s! We won't see much in the way of rain this week.
