March Winds Blow Cold

By Elliot Abrams, AccuWeather chief meteorologist

As a large high pressure area moves from Hudson Bay to Quebec and New England, a strong northerly flow ahead of it is sending a real chill into the Northeast. Temperatures tumbling to the 20s tonight as far south as northern Virginia will threaten the many blossoming plants that have forged ahead with growth well ahead of usual. In the video, we can see the cold high pressure and the southerly flow of milder air behind it. This video shows what should happen next.

This map shows our projections for temperatures around sunrise tomorrow. These readings are all well above the all-time records for this time of year, but when placed against last week's taste of summer, it is a stunning change.

The AccuWeather family and our loyal friends who rely on AccuWeather.com lost a real leader, friend, colleague, mentor...etc... with the death of Ken Reeves. I remember when Ken started at AccuWeather. We encourage all of our new people to strive to be the best, but Ken was one of those people who took it literally to heart. He got things done and led by example. While others might talk about a problem or complain, he found a way to fix it and do the job better. He was the picture of confident tirelessness, and that's one reason why he was so successful. I'd like to thank those of you who wrote to me/us about your recollections of Ken and with your well-wishes.
