Thundery showers are expected to become more widespread later this morning and during Saturday afternoon, before easing from the southwest into the evening. Some torrential downpours are possible.
Please be aware of the risk of surface water flooding, including local disruption to transport and outdoor activities.
This warning has been updated to focus the zone at risk through today, whilst a separate warning will cover the potential for further heavy rain into Sunday, this time for more northern parts of England and Wales.A frontal zone associated with very warm and moist air will continue to move northwards across England and Wales during Saturday, with an increasing risk of thunderstorms developing and tracking northeastwards across the warning area.
There still remains some uncertainty in where the heaviest and most prolonged thundery downpours will occur, with some places in the warning area having only small amounts of rain, However, there is a risk of some torrential downpours developing which could produce around 30 mm of rain within an hour and very locally 50 mm within 2-3 hours, the most likely zone for these being from Dorset and Hampshire to Lincolnshire.
