AccuWeather's #WeatherMovieMadness tournament is seeking to crown the top weather-related movie. Have you voted yet?
In the spirit of March Madness and the NCAA Tournament, AccuWeather's editorial team has created its own tournament of sorts. It focused on 16 movies about weather or films with strong weather themes from the past 30 years. The field of 16 featured popular animated winter tales such as "Frozen'"and "Ice Age," apocalyptic thrillers such as "Geostorm" and "The Day After Tomorrow" as well as movies based on real-life storms such as "The Perfect Storm" and "The Finest Hours."
Voting began last Thursday, March 28, and the number of movies has since been narrowed down to eight.
Here are the results of the first round of voting, which featured several lopsided matchups but also some that were nearly too close to call:
No. 1 Groundhog Day (1,160 votes) defeated No. 16 Geostorm (386 votes)
No. 2 Twister (1,590 votes) defeated No. 15 Into the Storm (120 votes)
No. 3 The Day After Tomorrow (1,270 votes) defeated No. 14 Snow Day (269 votes)
No. 4. The Perfect Storm (1,330 votes) defeated No. 13 Hours (134 votes)
No. 5 Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (820 votes) defeated No. 12 Sharknado (552 votes)
No. 11 Ice Age (1,060 votes) defeated No. 6 The Grey (318 votes)
No. 10 Frozen (712 votes) defeated No. 7 Eight Below (661 votes)
