Slovenia is generally not the first destination that springs to mind when thinking of places to engage with nature. However, travelers should reconsider as the country blossoms into one of Europe’s most fantastic wildflower festivals, running through June 11.
The 11th International Wildflower Festival, which takes place in Triglav National Park in Slovenia’s Bohinj region, has been voted one of Europe’s best festivals. It’s also one of its least crowded. Over the festival’s 16-day period, only about 1,500 people visit each year.
But those who do make the trip are treated to more personalized travel, with guided walks led by locals. On these walks, local guides will point out the 70 types of flowers endemic to this Slovenian region, while providing knowledge about the national park.
Guests can also partake in interactive cooking, embroidery, and dance workshops during the festival. There are also art shows, concerts, and traditional beekeeping displays for visitors.
