Stormy for many through Saturday, then chilly

A big storm moving through California as of Thursday night will track toward the southern Plains states at the end of the week then toward the Great Lakes this weekend. A cold front trailing this storm will produce severe weather Friday into Friday night from the Arklatex to the middle Mississippi Valley with a tornado risk. A lesser severe risk will exist along the Gulf Coast Saturday and then perhaps to parts of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina on Sunday. Behind this storm system, we should see a few quiet and chilly days before another more substantial storm affects us later next week.

A generally quiet regime will be in place until Wednesday, even though sunshine will be limited in many places by high clouds streaming in from the Pacific. Things change at midweek as a new storm system takes shape...
