Southern Mexico at risk for severe flooding from tropical downpours into Thursday
By Eric Leister, AccuWeather senior meteorologist
Published Oct 14, 2019 11:02 AM EST
Mysterious oil spill contaminates 150 northeastern beaches in Brazil, but officials cannot find the source of the problem as officials work to clean up the enormous problem.
A large swath of southern Mexico will be at risk for flooding as a storm system moves through the area into Thursday.
The storm system, previously dubbed Potential Tropical Cyclone 17 by the National Hurricane Center, has lost its opportunity to develop into a tropical depression or storm as it has moved inland over southern Mexico.
Heavy rainfall will be the major concern across southern Mexico into Thursday.
The heavy rainfall will expand to the north and west into the day on Thursday affecting locations from southern Chiapas to Guerrero and points northward into Veracruz and Hidalgo.
Total rainfall through Thursday will average 75-150 mm (3-6 inches) with an AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 300 mm (12 inches).

Flash flooding and travel disruptions are possible during the heaviest rainfall. Mudslides will also be a concern.
This storm will also stir up rough seas and result in high surf and rip currents in coastal locations.
