Rain to spoil welcome dry stretch in northeastern US early in the new week
The stretch of dry weather gracing the northeastern United States is coming to an end, much to the dismay of rain-weary residents.
"After what was the first fully dry weekend in parts of the Northeast since early April, the weather pattern will turn more unsettled again with rounds of showers and thunderstorms to start the new week," according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore.
Rain and thunderstorms from the Southeast will continue to spread across the Northeast into Monday night.

Umbrellas will have to be pulled back out of closets in Philadelphia and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; New York City, Syracuse and Buffalo, New York; and New Haven, Connecticut, on Monday.
Boston; Burlington, Vermont; and Portland, Maine, will stay dry during the day on Monday before the rain and thunderstorms arrive at night into Tuesday.
"Some of the thunderstorms will produce locally heavy downpours," according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Rob Richards. "That may cause some flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, as well as lead to some transportation delays."
Motorists should prepare for standing water to heighten the risk of vehicles hydroplaning when traveling at highway speeds. Be sure to drive with headlights on as the downpours and spray from other vehicles create poor visibility.

Once again, professional and amateur sporting events may be delayed or canceled.
Those headed to watch the Major League Baseball games scheduled for Monday evening in Philadelphia and New York City will want to pack rain gear and prepare for potential delays.
Any baseball games planned for Tuesday evening will not be threatened by rain delays as high pressure ushers dry and less humid air back across the Northeast from west to east on Tuesday.
Air conditioners can be kept off as highs will be held to the 60s and lower 70s across the Northeast's interior on Tuesday. Highs in the 70s and low humidity will be common across most of the Northeast on Wednesday.

However, this upcoming dry stretch will not last for long.
As quick as the high pressure builds in, it will give way to another storm set to increase humidity and spread more rain and thunderstorms across the Northeast Wednesday night into Thursday.
