Another wind event to kick up across Southern California into Monday
Although rain is welcome for helping cap off the wildfires in California, it also elevates the threat of mudslides. Which means, people affected by the Camp and Woolsey Fires are not out of the woods just yet with rainfall expected through the end of the week.
Following a string of damp and relatively calm days, coastal portions of Southern California will again face a bout of dry, gusty weather beginning on Sunday.
"A storm system moving into the Great Basin on Sunday and Monday will turn winds out of the northeast and bring gusty winds to the normal wind prone areas," AccuWeather Meteorologist Maura Kelly said.
While she pointed out that this will be a weak to moderate Santa Ana event, it will still push warm, dry air over the mountains and towards the Los Angeles and San Diego region.

While the cities themselves will be sheltered from the strongest winds, residents of areas such as Burbank and Riverside will need to secure loose yard objects and prepare for possible power outages.
Anyone planning to hike or camp in San Bernardino or Los Padres National Forests on Sunday or Monday should be aware of the threat of toppling trees. In addition to posing a threat from above, they can block trails and roads.
Aside from hazards brought on by the gusts themselves, the warm and dry air coming in on the wind will heighten other threats as well.
"Temperatures across the L.A. Basin have been making a slow climb back towards normal after a storm system brought cooler air to the region last week, but once winds shift offshore, temperatures will be able to soar almost 10 degrees Fahrenheit above normal, especially in coastal locations," Kelly said.
The air filtering back into the region will dry out any leftover moisture from the showers that moved through last week.
"Lowered humidity and gusty winds will once again elevate fire danger across the region," Kelly said.
Anyone spending time in the wilderness will need to remain vigilant for this threat as well, and stay up to date on local fire weather conditions.
