Wichita Undular Bore: This Time, It's Personal
I documented a couple of undular bores on my blog here and here. But today, it's personal. The wave-cloud phenomenon struck Wichita, Kansas, this morning, home of AccuWeather Enterprise Solutions, where I got a webcam installed last year. Notice in the time-lapse video below how the wave clouds form "out of nothing" and note at the end several dark shadows as the wave clouds move over the sun for several minutes (the sun is behind the camera).
In the radar animation, you can see the waves propagate across the city via the reflectivity, velocity, spectrum width and even NROT radar types. Often, undular bores show up well on visible satellite, but that wasn't the case this morning (see end of loop).
