White Christmas Model Hype Update
As you know, I've been posting (in this special section of my blog) daily updates of the GFS Fprecast Model thoughts on who will see a White Christmas. Today a couple of important things have happened model-wise. 1.), the GFS has switched to higher resolution because we're now only a week out, and 2.) the DGEX is now giving a second opinion on Christmas Day weather, and 3.) On our Pro site, the AccuModel (the database storing the official AccuWeather.com forecast) has been upgraded to see out 10 days into the future.
So, we have a few more opinions now. What is the verdict? Well, the models are still not sure (big surprise). The DGEX doesn't predict snow cover like the GFS, but if we look at the weather on Christmas morning, we see a front exiting New England after dumping moderate to heavy snow on the I-95 corridor (to Raleigh!) Christmas Eve. Snow is also falling in Nebraska and Colorado.
The AccuModel doesn't have a snow cover map either, but I can show you a map of snow that will fall between now and Dec. 28th:
And the GFS... well it seems to be broadcasting a more climatologically likely scenario that leaves the southern half of the country without snow. It has a precip solution similar to the DGEX but has less snow on I-95 and exits is sooner.
