Top 5 Weather Books
People say, in the Internet Era, what do you need with books? But even I, a Netizen [Wikipedia] since day one, enjoy occasionally flipping through brightly colored paper. And there are still a few things that you can't get on the Net.
Chris Burt, author of "Extreme Weather", a comprehensive guide to which I frequently refer, has published an article in the Wall Street Journal's "Five Best" section. Chris describes his Top 5 Weather Books:
(1): The Elements Rage by Frank W. Lane (1965) - Stories about weather and other natural disasters
(2): USA Today: The Weather Book (1992) - A classic, sharply illustrated educational tool
(3): Divine Wind by Kerry Emanuel (2005) - "The Tempest" storm and other historical hurricanes, mixed with art & science
(4): The Rough Guide To Weather by Robert Henson (2002) - Travel buff describes the weather and how to forecast it.
(5): Northeast Snowstorms by Paul J. Kocin and Louis W. Uccellini (2004)- A compendium of blizzards from 1888 to 2004.
So what's on MY bookshelf at AccuWeather?
(Not Shown): Chris Burt's Extreme Weather, not shown on the shelf because I'm always using it : )
(1): The USAToday Weather Book, mentioned already above
(2): Weather for Dummies, for when I can't dumb it down enough to make sense
(3): The Weather Channel: The Improbable Rise of a Media Phenomenon, a good business book
(4): Weather, A Golden Guide Handbook, a classic, still handed out at the beginning of your employment here at AccuWeather
But I've got a weather bookshelf at home too!
Stay tuned tomororw for your own personal perusal.
