You've heard of thundersnow?How about thunderice? It happens. I would think that it would be more rare than thundersnow, because freezing rain situations are less convective than snow, but I just got over a fever so don't quote me on that. While watching the freezing rain on AccuWeather.com RadarPlus this afternoon, I caught a series of lightning strikes approaching my location:
University Park Airport confirmed this with their 1 p.m. observation, reporting freezing rain, thunder and 30 degrees (well, technically they reported "unknown precip" but when it's raining and 30 degrees, there's not much guesswork to it.
