Snow in South Georgia?
Blog reader Patricia asks today:
Patricia, the models are talking about some snow flurries in the Deep South this week, but looking at the latest model runs, I would say you're a little too far south. The latest version of the GFS does show snow in northern Alabama and Mississippi...
but the next frame in the loop skips Georgia and moves into the Carolinas. Now, the time in-between frames is 3 hours, so it's possible it missed something there. However, our official forecast for Waycross (PREMIUM | PRO) doesn't mention snow, and even the AccuPOP (PREMIUM | PRO) precipitation probability graphs show zero for that city. So I'd rate this one "extremely unlikely." Expect temperatures 10 degrees below the normal high and low of 64/34 late in the week though.
The NMM model shows snow flurries in Tennessee, but can't get much lower than northernmost Mississippi with it, as shown below. The next frame, 3 hours later, shown it in northeastern-most Georgia.
