Saffir: Miami Window Damage Unusual
This news article (no longer available) notes that an unusual number of high-rise windows were blown out in Fort Lauderdale and Miami during Hurricane Wilma.

Even Herbert Saffir (no longer available), of Saffir-Simpson fame, wasn't sure why. The article said bad buildings were mostly to blame, though I have to say that I thought Wilma hung together unusually well as she moved across Florida.

Unbelievably, just over after Hurricane Wilma, 1 million are still without power in Florida. News articles estimate that 12,000 to over 50,000 housing units have been condemned because of Wilma and thousands are still homeless. Because of the dangerous street conditions, Halloween was cancelled for thousands of kids. Heavy rain on Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale worsened the situation (see RadarPlus Rainfall map above), by collapsing roofs and condemning additional buildings.
